Before Devo founder Mark Mothersbaugh sat down to begin scoring Thor: Ragnorok, he faced the same issue that any composer faces when working on scoring programmatic media – how do I tie this work into a previously-created world without sounding repetitive? When you add in the fact that we’re talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the most popular franchises in the history of film, the order to sound fresh gets a little taller.
