We sat down with the two people behind Brickwall Drums — producer and engineer Jon Evans, who tracked the kit at his Brick Hill studio, and drummer Matthias Bossi, who played every hit on his own Allegra kit — about capturing a golden-era drum sound and what makes it feel human.
Producer and engineer Jon Evans on playing these drums: "Experiment with the softer hits — don't feel like you have to mash it all the time. It's not always 'hit it as hard as you can.' That internal dynamic range is what made those instruments and players play the way they do."

Drummer Matthias Bossi on making the record: "I tried to make these big, beautiful things sound as natural as possible. I was making music with my best friend, drinking coffee, looking out on the lake, having such a good time making these sounds for you — and I love this drum set, which I bring out for special occasions. It's like my tuxedo."
